Assessment & Development
Centres
An Assessment and Development Centre is one of the most effective ways of assessing the potential
of individuals and is one of the most effective tools for selecting individuals.
It will
usually be a one day event that includes an in depth assessment of an individuals ability to demonstrate the key
competences/behaviours for a particular role. During the event individuals are assessed by a number of assessors in a range of
simulated exercises. The simulation exercises assess an individual in a number of different contexts; including working as a
team, working one to one and working alone. Individuals can then be scored and allocated a rank order. This data can be used
for short listing purposes or to supplement evidence gathered at interview.
This approach
may also be used as development tool for internal staff. It provides a very powerful means of raising self awareness and
motivating individuals. Generally individuals and line managers receive detailed feedback reports that highlight strengths and
areas for development.
